Short answer. Slovenia's government page "Bodite pripravljeni ob nesrečah" lists food for one adult for 30 days and asks for at least three days of drinking water, at a minimum of 7.5 litres per person per day 1. There are 2,244 shelters with 348,537 places 2. Sirens and the new SI-ALARM system warn the public 45; residents within 10 km of Krško keep iodine tablets at home 6.

Information last checked on 20 October 2026. The main responsible body is the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief (Uprava RS za zaščito in reševanje, URSZR), part of the Ministry of Defence, which runs civil protection, the sirens, SI-ALARM and the 112 centres 8. The Slovenian Nuclear Safety Administration (URSJV) covers nuclear and radiological emergencies 6.

What does Slovenia ask households to store?

The official table lists the food and drinks an adult needs to survive for 30 days, from 3,000 g of flour and 3,000 g of potatoes to tinned fish, honey and long-life milk 1. Drinking water is counted separately: at least 7.5 litres per person per day for drinking, cooking and basic hygiene, with a stock for at least three days 1. Stocks should be checked twice a year, when the clocks change 1. See emergency supplies.

Does Slovenia have public shelters?

Yes. Slovenia has built shelters since 1973 and counts 2,244 shelters with 348,537 places, mostly in urban centres 23. Municipalities keep the shelter register, so you ask your municipality (občina) where the nearest one is 23. See public shelters.

How will I be warned?

The national siren system uses three general signals, tested every first Saturday of the month at 12:00 with the end-of-danger signal 4. SI-ALARM, a cell broadcast system that needs no app or registration, is being introduced; its first national public test ran on 27 September 2025 5. See alerts and our guide on air raid alerts.

Who gets iodine tablets?

Residents within 10 km of the Krško nuclear power plant (NEK) keep potassium iodide tablets at home 6. Elsewhere, state stocks are held in hospitals and handed out only after an order by the Civil Protection commander 6. The 2025 leaflet says not to take them preventively or on your own initiative 7. See iodine and the general guide on potassium iodide.
