Short answer. Slovenia's civil protection administration (URSZR), drawing on National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) guidance, publishes a table of the food and drinks one adult needs to survive for 30 days 1. Drinking water is stored separately: at least 7.5 litres per person per day for drinking, cooking and basic hygiene, with a stock for at least three days. Check your stocks twice a year, when the clocks change 1.
How long should a Slovenian household be able to last?
The official page gives two different horizons 1:
| Supply | Official horizon | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Food and drinks | 30 days, per adult (table) | 1 |
| Drinking water | At least 3 days | 1 |
| Stock check | Twice a year, at the switch to and from summer time | 1 |
The page states that the table lists "the foods and drinks an adult needs to survive for 30 days" ("živila in pijače, ki jih odrasel človek potrebuje za preživetje za 30 dni") 1. That is longer than the 72-hour horizon used by many other countries; our guide on two-week supplies compares horizons.
How much water per person per day?
The minimum is 7.5 litres of drinking water per person per day, covering drinking, cooking and basic hygiene 1. The official wording: "Ob naravnih in drugih nesrečah je treba zagotoviti minimalno količino 7,5 litra pitne vode na osebo na dan" 1. URSZR recommends a stock of drinking water for at least three days 1.
That minimum applies to the first days only. After two to three days, the amount must rise to at least 20 litres per person per day, and exceptionally 15 litres 1. For a household of three, the three-day minimum is therefore 3 × 3 × 7.5 = 67.5 litres.
The 30-day food table also includes 10 litres of table water ("namizna voda") per adult, which the official list keeps separate from the drinking-water stock 1. Water disinfection products appear on the list too 1. See our guides on water per person, water storage containers and water purification.
What food is on the 30-day list?
The table is detailed and gives quantities per adult 1. Some of the larger lines:
| Food | Quantity per adult (30 days) |
|---|---|
| Flour | 3,000 g |
| Potatoes | 3,000 g |
| Wholegrain pasta | 2,500 g |
| Rice, pearl barley, other grains | 2,000 g |
| Preserved fruit (compotes) | 1,500 g |
| Rusks | 1,000 g |
| Dried beans (lentils, soya) | 1,000 g |
| Honey | 1,000 g |
| Sterilised milk, 3.5% fat | 4 l |
| Cooking oil | 1 l |
The full list, with tinned meat and fish, vegetables, dairy, juices, nuts, salt and yeast, is reproduced line by line on our official kit list page 1.
What else belongs in the supply?
Beyond food and water, the official page lists 1:
- a gas cooker, can opener, some cookware and disposable cutlery;
- regular prescription medicines, fever reducers, painkillers and medicines for digestive problems;
- first-aid items (bandages, plasters, gauze, thermometer, scissors, tweezers, hand disinfectant);
- spare batteries for medical devices such as hearing aids;
- hygiene and cleaning products, nappies and sanitary pads, rubbish bags;
- warm, waterproof clothing, sturdy boots, gloves and blankets;
- torches or light sticks, and candles and matches except where there is a risk of explosion;
- a battery-powered radio with spare batteries;
- documents and valuables in a waterproof, fireproof box, and cash in small banknotes;
- water and food for pets.
Depending on the expected hazard, the page also suggests clean-up tools, a submersible pump for dirty water, protective sheeting, flood barriers and sandbags 1. See our guides on flood preparedness, first-aid kits, emergency radios and pets.
How should I keep the supply up to date?
Check your stocks twice a year, at the change to and from summer time 1. Our guide on food shelf life explains how to rotate tins and dry goods.
Frequently asked questions
Is the 30-day table for the whole family?
No. Quantities are given per adult 1. Multiply them by the number of adults and adapt for children, special diets and medication.
Is 7.5 litres per day enough for the whole emergency?
It is the minimum for the first days. After two to three days, Slovenia's guidance raises the need to at least 20 litres per person per day, or exceptionally 15 1.
Does the list include a radio?
Yes: a battery-powered radio with spare batteries 1.
Does the official page cover family planning?
Yes. It offers a household form and a personal contact card for each family member, kept with copies of key documents 1. See our guides on the family plan and important documents.
