When would iodine be used?
Only on the recommendation of the authorities. The plan's urgent protective actions are listed as "la puesta a cubierto; profilaxis con yodo estable; evacuación; control de alimentos y agua" (sheltering, prophylaxis with stable iodine, evacuation, control of food and water) 1. IPEN's emergency service (SENAER) may recommend these actions to the authorities 1.

Can I buy potassium iodide in Peru?
Not confirmed. The public product search of DIGEMID, Peru's medicines authority, could not be consulted on 21 October 2026 (access blocked from outside Peru), and no other official source stating a registration or sale condition for potassium iodide tablets was found. Until an official source confirms it, this page does not say whether or where you can buy them; ask a pharmacist or doctor before taking any iodine product. In an emergency, the IPEN plan leaves iodine prophylaxis to a recommendation by the authorities 1.
What should I do in a radiological emergency in Peru?
