Czech Republic's official emergency kit checklist, item by item

The Czech Interior Ministry's 72 hodin checklist, line by line: 2 litres of water per adult per day, 72 hours of food, a week of medicines.

Updated 2026-10-20· 3 official sources

Short answer. The Czech Interior Ministry's 72 hodin checklist asks each household to hold 72 hours of supplies: at least 2 litres of drinking water per adult per day, long-life food for everyone, a first-aid kit with a week of medicines, a battery radio and flashlight, cash, a power bank, document copies, a gas stove, hygiene supplies, tools and detectors 1. An evacuation bag per person comes on top 23.

What is on the official home-supply list?

Line by line, as listed on 72h.gov.cz 1. Where the Ministry gives no quantity, none is shown.

  • Bottled drinking water: 2 litres per adult per day as the emergency minimum; total use including hygiene and cooking is 10-15 litres per day.
  • Canisters or other sealable water containers.
  • Long-life food: enough for the whole household for 72 hours.
  • First-aid kit and medicines: one week's supply.
  • Battery-powered radio and flashlight.
  • Cash in coins and banknotes of various denominations.
  • Fully charged power bank and spare batteries.
  • Copies of important documents.
  • Gas stove and matches.
  • Hand disinfectant.
  • Toilet paper and hygiene supplies.
  • Pet food.
  • Multi-tool knife.
  • Fire extinguisher or fire blanket.
  • Strong adhesive tape.
  • Garbage bags.
  • Full fuel tank (or a charged battery for an electric car).
  • Standalone smoke and gas detectors (e.g. carbon monoxide, propane-butane).

How much water is that for my household?

The Ministry's minimum is 2 litres per adult per day 1. Over 72 hours that is 6 litres per adult for drinking alone. With hygiene and cooking at 10-15 litres per day 1, the three-day total is 30-45 litres per person. Details: Czech emergency supplies and how much water per person.

What goes in each evacuation bag?

The fire and rescue service and the Dukovany nuclear-zone handbook list an evacuation bag (evakuační zavazadlo) 23:

  • Long-life food and drinking water for 2-3 days per household member.
  • Mug or bowl, cutlery, can opener.
  • ID card, passport, birth certificate, health insurance card, insurance contracts, cash and payment cards.
  • Regularly taken medicines, glasses, hygiene items.
  • Seasonal clothing, spare underwear and shoes, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, raincoat or umbrella.
  • Mobile phone and charger, flashlight, folding knife, sewing kit, writing materials, books and small toys for children.
  • Portable radio with spare batteries, matches.
  • A tag with the owner's name and address (the Dukovany handbook adds a mobile phone number).

How does this compare with a general 72-hour kit?

The Czech list matches the 72-hour approach used by many agencies. Our guide what goes in a 72-hour emergency kit compares them. Related reading: first-aid kit, important documents, emergency radio, carbon monoxide and generators and pets.

What about ready-made kits?

If you consider a ready-made kit, compare it line by line with the checklist above: the official Czech list is the reference, not any product. Most households will already own many of the items.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Czech list include a radio?

Yes. A battery-powered radio and flashlight are on the home list, and a portable radio with spare batteries is in the evacuation bag 123.

Why does the list include a gas detector?

The Ministry lists standalone smoke and gas detectors, for example for carbon monoxide or propane-butane 1. They matter when you heat or cook with fuel during a power cut.

Should I keep cash?

Yes, in coins and banknotes of various denominations 1.

Why keep the fuel tank full?

The list asks for a full tank, or a charged battery for an electric car 1, so the vehicle is ready if you need to leave.
