Short answer. In the Czech Republic, call 112 (the single European emergency number), 150 (fire and rescue), 155 (ambulance) or 158 (police) 12. The Fire and Rescue Service (HZS ČR, under the Interior Ministry) runs civil protection and the warning system, and SÚJB oversees nuclear safety 23. During a large emergency, do not call these lines unnecessarily: follow ČT1, ČT24 and ČRo 1 Radiožurnál 2.

Which numbers should I call?

Number Service
112 Single European emergency number 12
150 Hasičský záchranný sbor (fire and rescue) 12
155 Zdravotnická záchranná služba (ambulance) 12
158 Policie ČR (police) 12

Save them in every household member's phone and write them on paper in your emergency kit.

When should I not call?

During a large-scale emergency, such as after the Všeobecná výstraha siren, the fire service asks people not to call the emergency lines unnecessarily, so that they stay free for people who need help 2. Get information from radio, TV or the local information system instead 2. What the sirens mean: Czech alerts.

Where do I get official information during a crisis?

  • TV and radio: ČT1, ČT24 and ČRo 1 Radiožurnál 2. Under Act 239/2000 Sb. on the Integrated Rescue System and the Crisis Act, broadcasters must air emergency information 2.
  • Electronic sirens: they broadcast a spoken message after the warning tone 2.
  • Mobile phone alerts: a Cell Broadcast system is planned but no launch had been confirmed on official sources as of October 2026 (see alerts).

A battery-powered radio keeps you informed in a power cut: see emergency radio.
