Short answer. Singapore publishes no official guidance on potassium iodide (KI) tablets. No official source found describes a public distribution, distribution zones, a stockpile or a sale status 1. SCDF's 2026 handbook covers radiation incidents such as dirty bombs through shelter-in-place, decontamination and radiation monitoring, and does not mention iodine 1.
Is there an iodine tablet programme in Singapore?
No official one was found. On 20 October 2026, Phaenyx found no public KI guidance on the pages of the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), the National Environment Agency (NEA) or the Ministry of Health (MOH). NEA's Radiation Protection and Nuclear Science Group handles radiological emergency planning, but it publishes no KI advice that we could find.
The SCDF Civil Defence Emergency Handbook (10th edition, 2026) is the national household reference. Its section on dirty bomb threats does not mention iodine tablets 1.
What does Singapore advise for a radiation incident?
The handbook's Dirty Bomb Threats section relies on three measures 1:
- Shelter (shelter-in-place).
- Decontamination.
- Radiation monitoring.
Our general guides explain these measures: How do you decontaminate yourself after radioactive fallout?, Shelter in place or evacuate after a nuclear emergency? and Sieverts, grays and millisieverts: what the numbers mean.
Should I take iodine tablets on my own?
Singapore's official sources give no instruction on iodine tablets, so there is no official Singapore basis for taking them. Phaenyx does not recommend taking any medicine without instructions from health authorities. Our general guide Potassium iodide (KI): when to take it and who needs it sets out what international and other national agencies say.
If you have questions about your own situation, ask a doctor or pharmacist in Singapore.
How will I be told what to do?
Through the Public Warning System, SG Alert, the SGSecure app, free-to-air FM radio and TV, and SCDF's social media channels 1. See Emergency alerts in Singapore and Emergency contacts.
