What is the "Attention everyone!" signal?
It is the single warning signal of Kazakhstan's civil protection, given by sirens and siren-speech devices 12. The e-government portal describes it as "the sound of sirens lasting continuously from three to five minutes" ("непрерывно длящийся от трех до пяти минут"), and states its meaning: everyone should turn on radios or televisions and tune them to the local station 1.

Am I legally required to know the signal?
Yes. The Law on Civil Protection lists among citizens' duties knowing and following the procedure for the "Attention everyone!" signal, and informing 112 of threats they know about 2. See emergency contacts.
Are sirens tested?
MChS publishes notices when sirens are sounded, for example in Almaty in July 2024 6, and when national command-staff exercises such as "Zher-2024" (June 2024) take place 5.
Will I get an alert on my phone?
Possibly, depending on your region and phone. MChS is rolling out Cell Broadcast through the "Mass Alert" system. As of 16 January 2026 it was connected in 3:
- Almaty;
- Shymkent;
- Almaty region;
- East Kazakhstan region;
- Kyzylorda region.

MChS warns that some Huawei and Xiaomi phones have the emergency alert function switched off by default, and that iPhones running a version below iOS 18 and uncertified imported phones may not receive alerts 3. Check your phone's emergency alert settings.
Is there an official alert app?
An app called "112 KZ" exists only as a demo version, according to MChS in May 2025 4. Do not rely on it as your main warning channel; sirens, radio, television and Cell Broadcast remain the official channels described above 13.
What should I do after the signal?
